QoS
« on: January 24, 2007, 11:59:23 AM »

Jake I've been playing around with DD-WRT for a couple of days now.  I tried setting up my QoS so that my torrents wouldn't slow down internet browsing any.  Instead I managed to drastically slow down one of my computers internet and cap my torrent download speed at 20 KBs.  I've read up on QoS and followed the direction I could find, but I've failed to get it to work.  So WTF, Jake?

BTW, my parents have yet again delayed in upgrading my internet connection.  Is there anything I can do to speed it up?  I have 512 up 256 down DSL.

Offer to pay the difference for a good connection.

I'm curious about QoS too, but for CS:S reasons...

What router do you have ikono?  If your just trying to optimize internet gaming, on some routers it is easy.

Honestly, I flashed back to the Linksys firmware two days ago.  It kept dropping the wireless connection, then making it impossible to reconnect unless you rebooted the router.  Flashed it back to linksys and it's been brilliant ever since.  I'll probably give it a try again once I have some free time.

I would recommend restoring defaults, then starting over.

The easiest way being disconnect all other connections from the router and set wireless to only accept your MAC address.  Bandwidth for you.

I've actually done that a few times... and... I've got a DL-614+ with Gaming Mode on.

I need a new router.

So I just upgraded our internet.  I had some screwy things going on with my old provider.

Jake, I'm curious about the old firmware.  If you switched back to it wouldn't you experience "Router Slowdown"?  I think my router is screwing up my downloads.

Nope, but I don't use torrents very often, so I wouldn't be the person to ask.

If you don't mind my asking, what one(s)?  Also, what newsreader do you use?
