I'm tired of labeling all my topics "Security Question... WTF, Jake?" so I gave it a fun name instead.
Considering the thousand of P2P lawsuits anymore, I want to try and secure myself. What should I do? I generally use uTorrent. I looked at PeerGuardian, but it looks like a crappy program that doesn't work very well. What other options are there?
Another question, I generally download TV shows and not much else. I'm pretty sure the RIAA doesn't care about those, but would the MPAA? I have no idea if that falls under their "jurisdiction". Does anyone know if it is illegal to download those shows, or is it a gray area because of fair use?
I'm done.

Downloading shows is illegal, there was an article a little while ago talking about some company suing google, because of tv show clips on you tube.

I'm afraid you are sadly mistaken Devour. It is completely simple to track a leecher on Limewire. There is only one solution Jed, and it's name is newsgroups. Notice the encrypted SSL access. An encrypted connection straight from your computer to their servers. Not even your ISP can track what you're downloading. If you decide to sign up, let me know. I think both of us can get referral credits this way.

I use PeerGuardian2. Sure it probably doesn't block everything, but it does probably help some. It gives me a sense of security when I see IPs being blocked. (You can also use it with limewire, or whatever). Really, there's no other way that I know of. Uh...Wait, I do. Private Trackers. Sure your ISP can see you're using a shit-ton of bandwidth, but there will be (practically) no seeds/leechers that are RIAA/MPAA (probably).

Does anyone know about the other two questions I had? $40 for 3 months, so about $13.50 per month. Less than Netflix or Blockbusters service each month, with a ton more options, and not just movies. Since April, I've downloaded 1.4 TB of movies, music, games, etc using this. And the best part is that it uses my whole connection speed from start to finish. No waiting for seeders or connections. Start download, 1.25 MB until finished. I can usually get a DVD in 1 hour.

Still, you are establishing a direct connection with a user when you download or if they download from you. Even if you have leeching and indexing disabled, every time you download a file your giving out your IP. The only difference between you and torrents is: Limewire transfers aren't encrypted so your ISP knows whats going. Limewire is more susceptible to fake files, viruses and trojans. Limewire is slower.

QFE I appreciate that you tried though. I hope you switch from limewire. It's like waking up for the first time. You might believe that god loves you afterwards. EDIT: If you're interested in free downloading, you should go to torrents. The best client out there IMO is uTorrent. I highly recommend the very latest version. And a great site to find torrents is torrentz. Not everyone likes this site, but I have used many different sites and this one seems to regularly index most of them.

i ,as well, only use bitt orr ents now. utorrent rocks. i've used azureus, bitcomet, and bittornado as well. but utorrent rocks and a lot of to rrent sites prefer utorrent and will even block bitcomet users.
i use demonoid.com as my first source for searching. they allow user comments so you can tell if the files are good or crap. plus, you get to see the profiles of those who are uploading the files in the first place and can tell from that if they are really involved w/ the community or are doing something suspicious.
and, devour, get off limewire or similar programs as such. too much trouble and the results you get are a fraction of the greatness of bittorrent.
