Know what's funny, when I'm at school we have fiber optics, and I'm about 24 hours away and i get a ping of 80-100+ and lag problems yeah crappy networks that should work like a champ!

Your school is probably capping packets.  I know thats what mine did to limit my ping.  From 3am - 4am I would ping 5 to the DS servers.  10am - 2pm I would ping 800...

Stupid packet caps...
