The practice in general is actually legit. At least that's what I remember from reading up on it a few years ago. Not too sure if that's still the case.

Yes the main risk is cutting off the esophagus and having them suffocate and die if the swelling is too much.

Next risk is missing the pressure point and having your ass beat down like a bitch.

I'm pretty sure you're wrong Killa.  It looks like he's cutting off blood flow not airflow. 

While a throat chop is usually incapacitating, it doesn't instantly put one to sleep.

That's true, but from the looks of it it appears hes hitting both sides of the neck, where as you know there are large blood vessels, unless he hit him hard enough to condense the windpipe...in which case i just contradicted myself..
