Abuya?!?

Disclaimer: This piece is intentionally speculative/devil's advocate. Keep that in mind.

I spent the morning reviewing player graphs and statistics and found something interesting: we have lost almost all our east coast player base. Almost all our player base now comes from the west coast - just check the stats graph when the server is full nowadays.

Is this a problem?
Yes and No.

Why is it a problem? We only draw players later in the day and lose them earlier - essentially we are restricted to MST and PST players with very few CST or EST.

Now, I'm looking at this from entirely a player population standpoint. There are definitely other factors here, I'm just not considering them.

In regards to potentially moving the server, please try pinging some of these IPs from Dallas and Chicago and post the results here

Chicago - You should ping the exact same or similar to all of these IPs.
69.65.53.49
69.65.49.87
69.65.39.36 (This one fluctuates for me)
69.65.57.70

Dallas - Same thing here, ping shouldn't vary too much.
208.43.218.7
208.101.8.233
208.43.218.6
 208.101.8.226

My results
Chi Avg - 77ms
Dallas Avg - 65ms

Not too big of a difference.

I bring this up just for consideration. We're in a CAL season, so we wouldn't be able to move until early November. Unless, you guys really want to move so bad that we talk to CAL and move our divisions to Cent.

I imagine HiDef may charge us a bit do move the server, but they would more than likely move it.

Thoughts? Keep in mind we would lose our current IP. Is it worth it to you?

Laby can you show me where you're basing your location data on?  Spot checking the location map periodically isn't an accurate reading.

Also, we moved the server at the time of school start which also impacts when we draw in players.  East Coast runs later than West Coast in everything... TV times, Social Events, Etc..  I would guess people being free to play video games would also follow that trend.

I"m not saying that this isn't possible, I'd just like to see real data to back it up before spot checking the map and trying to make correlations which could be impacted by a number of different things.

Fair points, I just felt like playing devil's advocate this morning.

Do I want to move? No, not really.
Do I have solid evidence? No, not really.

So, yes, I was just playing devil's advocate. Nothing more, nothing less. This was more of a speculation piece than anything.

chicago ~ 90 dallas ~60 LA ~20 denver ~50

Like i havent noticed too much of  a population change in the server but I think having the community members (regulars) getting better ping is better than having people playing an hour earlier.

Makes sense, however I do know a substantial player base here who are familiar and play on the OPG server.

if we could get some west coast players to post their pings. that would help making a decision much easier.
