I read the thread which discussed some of the issues with enabling spectating and I understand that viewpoint. From my perspective, however, promoting a cheater-free server is a cardinal rule to supporting a solid CSS community. I have noticed in increase in cheaters and other rule violators since spectating has been removed.

As much of an issue as spec/rejoining is, is it worse than someone walling or aimbotting the first kill or two of a round when no one but the person that died knows what happened? And if there is a cheater, how is the community expected to prove it without an admin in the server and able to witness the illegitimate kills? I have seen CAL rostered players come into this server and practice with their wall hacks, its the perfect spectator-free environment to do it. All I can do is call them out on it and hope they leave.

If idling spectators is an issue, can a round or time limit be set that automatically kicks? Even with spectating restricted people are still forced into a fixed camera perspective before joining a team and riding in spectator from map to map; I saw the same person in spec for almost 2 hours straight this afternoon.

I don't mean to beat a dead horse but this needed to be said.

The amount of cheaters in a server is not directly proportionate to whether or not that server allows spectators.

Inferring that this is the case is retarded.

If you believe someone is walling, demo them when you die, upload the demo and post your case.

He does have a point, though.

We disabled spec when we had 16k, we could try allowing spec again and then removing it if spec/rejoin becomes a problem.

At the same time, allowing spec won't solve anything because you'll be kicked by the AFK manager plugin. Only reason the person wasn't kicked for being AFK was because he/she was an admin or because he/she hadn't actually joined the game and was just sitting at the menu.

Should check to see if they've released a patch for that.

My solution: give out more daytime admins.
