Server Explosion: Dedicated

In light of the recent discussion regarding a new pub server and the pages upon pages of private discussion regarding a new pub server, one of the most three talked about options is going up for vote.

I'll try to lay it out with as little bias as possible:

What this would entail
We would drop the NFo pub and HiDef Private, moving all of our servers onto a single dedicated HiDef/Branzone box. From this new box, we would be able to host a 1000fps 18man pub, 1000fps 12man Private, and 1-2more 250/500fps privates - one of which would be rented out to Enhanced.

Yes, IPs would switch. We will have 1 month after August 11th to get the word out and people on to the new server.

What would this cost?
$225/month
With the $35/month offset from enhanced: $190.

To compare numbers to our current setup:

Currently: $176/month

So, yes, it would be more expensive. Depending on server resources, we may be able to rent out another low FPS private for $35/month to offset the cost.

I don't know if I want this yet
We should be able to get a test server from either provider to test out what the pub would be like for 1-2 hours any day M-Th. I know most of you will not want to decide until we have done this test, so if we could hammer down a date for either tomorrow or sometime next week, that would be wonderful. 18 People would be needed for about an hour or until we have come to a decision.

oh, and it'd be nice to maybe stipulate that those testing should visit the forums to give their two cents on their experience.

I said yes.  I'm still willing to donate 15 dollars monthly and icey might also.  That will cut down on the server cost as well.

Um you forgot one of the largest data centers in the country.. VA (or DC on some sites) but they're both located here in Ashburn VA.  Uunet, who use to own 80% of the internet backbone, headquarters was here in Ashburn Virginia and you should see the size of their data center. 

From what others have told me (and I have not verified this) Ashburn is 2nd largest data center in the country.

The only problem i have with east coast.  Is the cal team is probably going to play pacific so that may be a problem.

I think that either LA or Chicago would be fine, but those are details to work out after the test and the internal group (Admins/Senate) have agreed upon such a move. Then we should move it in front of the community to determine where the members would like.

Personally I know that strafeRight (the community whom I play CoD4 competitively, and CSS previously) uses Branzone and they are very happy with it (they've used it for BF2, CSS, TF2 and CoD4).

I wasn't too impressed with the Private server we got, the demo one we scrimmed on was much better.

I was posting major data centers which I believed were a relatively sane distance away from Denver considering our playerbase. Hence the 'based off our location' tagline.

Laws won't set up a 1000fps pub on one of their client machines for us to test, but he gave me the IP the only pub they rent out to a guy in chicago.
