Abuya?!?

« on: August 25, 2008, 10:22:36 PM »

The server has been running at 333fps for the past week. Don't kill me, I told no one about this. I was testing a lower FPS out to see if it really made that much of a difference. So...

What are your impressions? Did you notice a difference? Would you rather I go back to 1000fps?

Or

Should we try 500?

Please be honest/fair. The only person you would be hurting here is yourself.

I've noticed a few occasions where the reg might have gotten worse a little bit... I VOTE 500. But then again, my kdr has skyrocketed recently...

a HAH!

so laby, i don't know if this will relate to the fps subject but i was getting choke this past week. so i was trying to lower fps max and cmdrate and updaterate, but no luck.

otherwise, server quality was still better than the old opg server.

Hahaha.  Did you change this before or after I posted that I noticed a difference on the server?

Classy.

No. The server was still at 1000fps then. It was changed on the 19th.

I also have been noticing a bit of choke when I play. I'll change it to 500fps and we can evaluate for another week. I'll post when I've done it.

why would we not want the highest fps possible?  i have heard that the human eye can only see so much fps, and anything after that mark is redundant, is that a factor?  does the higher fps put more of a strain on the server?  i'm just a dumb fireman, would you mind elaborating on the whole fps thing please  Huh

I wrote an article series on SRCDS

Check our part 5, the server fps section.

Laby's just taking advantage of our expanded control of this new server and trying to find the optimal settings.  More fps does require more server resources, so if performance at 500 is equal to performance at 1000 then it would be beneficial to run the server at 500.  This frees up those extra resources to be used for other things, like an overflow pub server or maybe laby wants to use the server to participate in folding at home.

I have not noticed any difference.  I say 500 FPS..

Free up server resources for different things.

I did notice a difference.  I even asked Jameson about it 2 days ago specifically asking, "Do you know if we dropped the FPS on the server".  I'd vote for raising it back up, b/c whatever its at currently (or was) sucked for me :-)

The only real change to me was the expanded choke.  I went from 2-5 choke maxes to 30-40 choke maxes.  I was even a whinny little boy about it last night and asked if anyone else was getting it.  Although you never know if the route to the server change from my ISP which could be a factor.  Undecided

I would leave it at 1000 until we have something else on the server.  Then vote on dropping it back to 500.
