OPG SERVER ?????

What do you guys think about getting our own servers???

We would have a 18 man Public.

We would have a private 12 man Scrimmage.

We would have a 16 man ventrillo server also.

Any ideas?

I was thinking that if we had about 10 to 12 people to donate 15.00 a month it would cover the costs. This server would just be another place to game ?

Did you find a specific place that you offers this service, or where you thinking of building our own server and then finding an ISP to host? 

If its just $15 I could probably find that in my budget.... The website costs about $3.99 a month, but at some point, we might be able to get some advertisement placement or something to cover that.  Do we want other content to be included in the site to try and drive traffic this direction?  Thoughts???

Ok everybody I had a nice long talk with Killa about setting up a server this afternoon and here was what we came to a conclusion on.

The server would be rented from Nuclear Fallout. When we compared the cost of Colocating (building our own then having someone else host it) to renting a server from Nuclear Fallout it was more economical to use Nuclear Fallout. Bandwidth costs for a 100 Tic/500 FPS 18 man, private 12 man, and vent server would be around $210 if we colocated. NFo offers what we need for a cheaper price; mainly because they have some super great deal going on with internap for cheap, yet super amazing bandwidth.

What you would be getting exactly for $175 a month is the following:

1 18 Man Public 100 Tic, Hyperaccelerated (500 fps) Server With High CPU priority
1 12 Man Private 100 Tic, Hyperaccelerated (500 fps) Server
1 16 Slot Ventrillo Server
Stats Generated 4 times a day.

Nuclear Fallout does not offer sponsorship, so there is no way to offset the cost of the server via advertising. But this means that you don't really need to worry about representing NFo unless you don't want to. (I'd reccomend doing it anyway, just to be nice)

Other than that with the server comes free webhosting, free unlimited email, and a free subdomain. Although, if website costs are only $4.00 a month, I'd reccomend keeping the hosting seperate so you can get the super amazing server you desire.

Lastly, I can vouch for how amazing Nuclear Fallout is. They have AMAZING servers, AMAZING customer service, AMAZING bandwidth, etc... etc...

They offer hosting in various places across the united states, and I reccomend you check their website out to figure out which one you ping to best. I'm thinking denver would be the best, but LA looks decent as well.

This looks good to me... I'd pick Denver, but thats mostly because I'm lliving back east now... 

The website is really cheap and we get 5gigs of storage and something like 200gig transfer a month.  plus email.

I will be unbanned from playin cs in two weeks because the state golf tournament is in two weeks and i would so be up for 15 a month that just like cutting back on like two plates of sweet and sour a month..

First of all, I think it would be wise to start out slow.  Jumping in with three servers is expensive, especially when it may be hard to fill any of them.  Not that I don't enjoy the idea mind you, but if there is anything I've learned in Business Planning it is to make as few of guesses as possible. 

Plus, I can not donate $15 a month. 

Do you not find it wise to be semi-patient and start small?  You can always expand later.  But our clan is only 13 members strong.  And unless we find some awesome way of attracting players, I doubt we can fill up a server very soon.

Jed, it's only one server.

The 12 man is private, and it comes attatched to the 18 man. The vent server can be used in conjunction with the private scrim server for matches, or it can be dropped. But for only $8.00 a month I suggest we keep it.

Also, if we advertise our stuff right we can attract a good player base. NFo servers are VERY popular having some of the best connections out there. Their bandwidth provider is internap which provides bandwidth to companies like lycos.

Anywho, I don't think starting off with one 18 man server is too big. And the scrim server is totally optional, Killa told me that it was essentially a must, and this looked like the best way to do it.

I can understand where you are coming from, and while this would be a huge, and expensive leap I believe it could be very worthwhile.

If we can come up with enough money to get one month going I say lets go for it.    Once we expand the player base we might be able to increase money income that would lower and eventually end our monthly contributions.

Hey, maybe we could hold the first semi-annual oPg CS:S tournament.  Charge something like $5  - $10 a team and the winner gets something?  Jed you can contribute by designing some cool "oPg Tournament Champions" logo or something that a clan can put on their website/tag/or signature?

We can always look at expanding to a third squad to increase the clan to 18.  Thus increasing the number of people playing and paying??

1.   I really don't think we should get too horribly bigger right now. Except for the strong candidates like "Laby".

2.   It doesn't mean that everyone playing has to be an OPG'er.

3.   It doesn't mean that everyone that donates has to be an OPG'er.

4.   Basically if some of the OPG'ers cannot donate, like Jed, Other help is probably going to be needed.

5.   Personally if one is not dontaing time, ideas monetarily, thoughts, actions then there may not be a need for that person to be an admin on the new server???

6.    I agree with Jed we should go nice and slow at the beginning.
