I should note that in the very near future I am going to be consolidating our Los Angeles services. Right now, we have service in 2 places in the same facility. We will be putting all systems together (that means moving your system from one side to the other). You will get new IPs with the changeover. If you really can't stand an IP change on the system I can have your system stay on the other side of the cage but it will cost $20/mo more (prices were raised for power on that side). Perhaps now would be a good time to setup DNS for each server so you can get people used to using that. Then when the IPs are changed over, I can change the DNS to point to the new IPs. There should then be minimal problems.
Let me know your feelings on the matter.
Regards,
Joseph Laws Hi-Definition Gaming LLC
So... Umm... Yeah... Discuss Edit: This also brings to the forefront the future of oPg. By losing our IP, even if we keep the DNS, we are more or less starting over. Not entirely, but close. Do we stay with HiDef or do we move to Branzone or do we ditch the whole thing? Our options are wide open at the moment - by just relying on DNS, anything which gives us an IP should be a viable option.

I say we need to go with someone tha twill give us SSH to a box. For me, that's top priority. I'd like to see a Denver location again personally, but I'm fine if we decide to leave it at LA. Ummm, also these guys are noobs if they can't reconfigure their hardware to keep the same IP. The work itself is probably just too expensive. Or maybe the hosting facility won't let them keep it.
Either way, I demand SSH!

Well the first big question from me is, would it be possible to know the ip in advance? I realize that a DNS would be nice to also post but if we could spam the new ip for a week letting people know that the move is coming, it might not be as much of a hassle. If that's not an option, we need to advert as much as possible about the change. Even have an official posting on the front page of our site that we can send people to for more explanation. As for the location and what not, I'm open to what ever is decided. I would ping better but doubt we could get away with it for cal. I also like the routes to LA better than most places... (excluding Chicago ) The whole server population is hit or miss in my opinion so don't base it on that. Cost, Efficiency, and overall Community feel ftw!

Um.. we have pub.opggaming.com lined up already to point to an ip. We just need to repoint it to the new location and get the word out again... and loose all our people.. again.
I would not be against scrapping it, playing a lot of l4d and raising my middle finger at Hi-Def.

I have actually heard a LOT of people discuss wanting the server back to a 'central-ish' location like Denver/TX type of deal. Personally I don't really care and will continue to donate wherever it is, however it certainly did seem that we got more people playing when it was central. As for CAL...play central or play on theirs all the time and persuade an admin to move you over in your division I guess. I vote for mid-USA again (to support more players it seems). OPG word travels fast and I believe a mid-USA location was ultimately better based on how the server population seems these days. - eric as for jake, give him nothing

Which makes it impossible for him making the default time for central time zone. If you guys want to move the box to a central location like dallas or chicago(recommended). Then the cal team will try to figure it out.

Back to normal convo.... if that's possible. Laby I've been looking but can't find anything specific on the new hardware setup we have with hi-def. If I could get the specs of what we have for what we are paying, I might be able to inquire some dedicated servers in the Colorado area.
Gracias
