Awesome.  And if push comes to shove, I saw an ad for a L4D server the other day for like $18/month.  Not a huge amount.

Yeah, 4 slots is not that big of a deal.

We should be able to run quite a few, though. Valve introduced the fork command with L4D which allows us to run mutliple servers from a single instance. Saves memory, so we should be able to run a few more servers without having to worry.

If we're not using the 1000fps settings... Do we need to rewrite the kernel? !

Usually yes. The default kernel in most cases doesn't really run more than 125 or 300 fps. I can do it and I spent about an hour today looking up guides on how to do so for CentOS. It's actually much easier than it was for Debian back in the day.

At the same time, we haven't really run into a game which we want to host a server for which HiDef hasn't worked with us on.

Double post again:

What types of servers do you want?
1 co-op
1 DM

4 co-op
0 DM

2 co-op
1 DM

I like the sound of 1 Expert co-op, 1 Normal co-op, and 1 DM. Our only limit is server resources. We should be able to pull up to 4 fork (4 servers) co-op, but we don't know what sort of resources a DM server will pull considering they aren't part of the demo. As far as we know, you cannot split the fork between a DM and a co-op server, so it looks like we'll have to run 2 instances for a co-op and DM server - taking up more server resources.

I like the sound of 2 coop and 1 dm.  But I haven't tried it out yet, so I can't say for sure.

I think two expert co-op (does the server decide or does the client decide?) and I'm pretty "meh" on DM.

I'm meh on DM too, but it may end up being pretty fun, who knows. We'll see once the game is released.

At the very least, we're throwing up 2 co-op - we can handle 4 co-op but we wouldn't be able to put up a DM on top of that.

If you want an easier one do one expert one advanced. Anything below advanced is a joke. (unless the later levels are insane?)
