I don't think your opinion is worth much because you weren't there.  I think that the only thing that warrants a permanent ban is hacking.  People do things and say things, it happens deal with it and forget it.

I still stand by the conclusion that I was banned based solely on what others thought I meant.

I believe this is the same case with llama.  It's just a name.  Was his intent to make others start making racist or hateful comments? No.  His name wasn't a violation of the rules and I don't believe someone should be judged based on the actions of others.  Should action have been taken to stop such conduct? Probably.

Cognitive bias, look it up Smiley

If you want to debate the name issue, please feel free to do so in a separate thread.

What has happened has happened - an admin was doing something he thought was appropriate and another admin called out the other admin for being inappropriate. This eventually escalated, we have a 3 page thread on it, and someone was banned for an hour.

Did some people screw up? Yes.
Is more action warranted? No. Everyone has been punished enough by having to deal with this fiasco.

We have the right to free speech, therefore he is allowed to have that name. For all you know it was the person's birth name. I'm sorry if that offends you, it isn't against the rules. The rules say, "Any individual participating in the practice of profanity, derogation, harassment, of another individual on account of religion, race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, gender, play style, etc. will be subject to repercussions."

If you find a name offensive, but it does not break the rules and if the person's intentions are benign, then there is no conflict. Politely asking the person to change the name is fine, but forcing them, banning them, or otherwise interrupting their gaming session is wrong.

In our case one admin stood up for free speech and one admin stood up for what he thought was right; good, if not admirable pursuits. The ensuing chaos happened to be a indirect result of this conflict.

Case closed. If fellow admins would like to work this out among admins, please do so in the admin forums. The senate will be the final mediator in this issue.
A public debate on free speech and server rules is welcome, provided it remains orderly and objective. Personal assaults will result in a locked thread.
