Has anyone installed Ultimate on their computer yet.  Have you encountered any problems besides it being Vista?  I'm curious if Windows still has 64 bit woes.

Also, is Microsoft still cool with the, err, "extended trial" that Mofo sent me?  They aren't trying any WGA stuff right?

Ohh.  Well it came with the business edition.  Maybe I should keep it?

i hear mixed reviews on the 64-bit, but since you game you probably won't want 64-bit vista. go for the 32-bit.

right now i'm running the business version of vista, 32-bit. works fine for me.

A contractor we just hired for our Exchange migration told me that Server 2003 R2 64 bit is more stable than Server 2003 R2 32 bit.

Maybe he's right... but I still cringed.

yeah for server hardware i wouldn't go anything but 64-bit. the only things we've run into with 64-bit at our offices are:

1) for some reason, groove 64-bit doesn't do synchronization (V64)
2) non 64-bit print drivers blow (V64)

Everything else though seems to run fine on 64-bit, but then again, we are mostly running MS apps, and the list of them is short (exchange 2007,server 2003,sql server 2005) and on our workstations the list is even shorter (visual studio 2005 + misc apps).

it really just seems to be older programs and graphics intensive apps that seem to suck right now.

This pretty much ruined Vista for me.  I was hoping that the better performance I would get out of Vista's improved support for:
Dual Cores
64bit
DX10
Would offset the performance hit that I would take.  Oh well, I'm going to run a dual boot anyways.

Yeah, this server will be exclusively Exchange 2007.  The way this place manages their servers is seriously crazy.  We have one beefed up PowerEdge 2950 with dual quad cores.  Would you like to know what it does?

Pushes updates out to our 7 weigand card readers for our doors...  We have many more machines that are in the same boat.  They basically just sit there.

Oh well...  More for me to play with.

I still have the "extended trail" setup on my ultimate without any problems. However, I have such a very bitter taste in my mouth from XP64 that I'm too hesitant to install Vista 64. Damn XP 64 sucked... I'm so mad just thinking about it.

I've been running Vista on my laptop for a while now,  It has some nice & needed improvements.  I have finally gotten to where I can navigate it as easily XP, which makes me happy.  But I strongly dislike this program.  Its animations slow down my productivity a bunch and are quite distracting at times.  IMO beauty in programs and websites should compliment functionality not impede it.  Of course there is the ever obvious bloated/slowness of the OS, but you expect that.  I

'm pissed that vendors don't offer XP on laptops and the option to downgrade to Vista.  Because it is very hard to upgrade to XP on certain laptops...

I'm sorry Crackie, I really tried to keep an open mind.

So, I got 4 GB in my computer - which sucks because XP/Vista (32bit) only can register 3GB of RAM... For me to get that last gig rock'n I need to "upgrade" to a 64bit OS. I've done some homework and it appears that Vista 64 is much better than XP64 was... so, I'm going for the plung... wish me luck... I'll probably be upgrading this weekend...

Step 1. Buy beer
Step 2. Pray
Step 3. Drink beer
Step 4. Pray more
Step 5. Drink more beer
Step 6. Cross fingers
Step 7. uncross eyes
Step 8. uninstall vista 32 bit and install vista 64 bit
Step 9. Profit??
