So I'm sick of my POS onboard sound that doesn't even sound correctly with its specific drivers installed (unless I tone down "audio acceleration" in directx to minimal)......
I'm looking for an upgrade, one that does not use my cpu for sound processing (pure hardware sound card?). Preferably one that uses the pci-express x1 slot (I know that's like impossible to find...) but I can free up 1 of my 2 (only) pci slots on my mobo.
Something sub $100 would be great too. It boggles my mind how a hardware sound card has to be >100 dollars majority of the time. Would you spend up to 100 dollars on a graphics card and expect just software acceleration?
Suggestions are thanked ahead of time!

i don't know if there are ones that does not use cpu pwr but any should reduce dependency on the main cpu. the one i bought last year is not being made anymore.... but take a look at this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829156001i bet laby would be a better source for advice on this one. but anything cheezits related you come to me, ok? |

that card looks good to me esp. with the emulating 5.0 eax. mine only is 2.0....  makes me sorta want to buy this card but i'm not willing to fork out money for a soundcard when i'm planning on buying a new gfx card in the near future. |

so f'cking sick of the sound freezing up, whole screen repeats for about 2 seconds and then i'm dead (in rainbow 6 vegas 2 or CS). It's bullshit i swear.

Actually ended up buying a cheap audigy SE. OMG I can hear so many more sounds in my songs/games..... so happppppppyyyyyy
