Okay, I'm finally getting around to doing this.

Synkron looks like it would work great as a local utility, but I'm not sure I want to jerry rig netdrive to make Synkron work remotely.

I've been batting around ideas, and that leaves with the following:
The aforementioned netdrive/synkron combo to sync both laptop/desktop/ftp
Unison via SSHWindows on my dekstop and the text based client on my laptop, then syncing just between my desktop and an FTP server
Use syncback or superflexible and sync to the FTP server on both laptop/desktop.

Any opinions?
I swear DIY synchronization without a paid service should not be this stupid. You think someone would have bothered to write a program which makes use of unison/rsyncs amazing synchronization algorithms and had the capability to connect to all the mediums things like superflexible does.
