I would go with this one if you have a spare PCIe x1

I'm only looking in getting the two i posted.  Cause the internal one i can go to best buy and pay 100 for it. Cause i  have a gift certificate.  So it would be cheaper then the newegg price and cheaper then the one you suggested logical.  My question is will the external one going to be similar in performance.  Cause i really like the idea of the external usb sound card.

Also if there is a cheaper internal sound card then I am looking at on newegg.  That is better in performance that would be useful as well.  DAMN so the one at best buy is a downgrade from the one on newegg so im going to get a sound card on newegg anyways.

I'll let Laby give you real advice since he knows the most.

However I speculate that an external sound card would have one distinct advantage, less environmental noise.

How would that happen? Its not like the fans on a GPU would make the sound on the sound card work any worse...

Also.... that Sound Card I recommended is available at Best Buy as well...

Lol silly logical jed is talking about other sources of noise.  All that stuff in your box can create interference on your sound card.  This tends to happen with on board, but I did not notice it with my audigy.

Exactly Mongoose.  My headhones are only $60.  And yet if I plug them into the Karajan audio module (Detachable "onboard" sound card) I can hear my fans, my hard drives spin up, I can even hear my GPU think when I scroll up or down in a web browser.

Same thing happens with my onboard sound.  Logical is number 3.

Sorry to say it, but search will be your friend here.
Vapor and I have had this conversation on the forum at least twice before.

As for sound cards, I'd stick internal. If you need/want an external component, get one with a breakout box.

I've never had a problem with it on my SB Live! internal card. External would actually probably cause more interference problems because of the USB cords.

Because digital signals like USB are quite prone to picking up and transferring environmental noise?

Well how is a digital PCI bus going to pick up noise?
