Sad This is seriously sad news.  I hope they don't go under.  The ati X2000 series is kicking some serious ass.  And the next release of AMD cpus is supposed to show Intel how its done.

They can't market worth crap... That's always been their problem.  Only people that buy AMD are gamers and people that purchase computers from CompUSA.

And they still do over a billion in revenue... It'll be a long time before they ever go under.... Someone might take a venture and go for some sort of purchase.. But some version of AMD will be around for a LONG time.

I pretty much agree with what you said.  AMD is for those that build their own computers.  And even still, only half of those.  I personally would buy a Core 2 duo if I was upgrading right now.

But it's gonna be a long time before the go under.

If you wait a month you can go the AM2+ or K10 route.  Brilliant!

agreed. but it's so expensive. i personally think that the only reason that the core 2 duo is so much faster is because it has 4 effing megs of cache, where the amd only has about 1 (or is it 2.... one of those).

Yea, core 2s are expensive.  And you can't beat AMD stability in my opinion.  But I'm still waiting to upgrade 'til AM2+ comes out, HT2 + improved DDR2 will probably be enough to kick a core 2's ass.

I am currently tempted to buy a mac because I'm fed up with DW for windows.  Buggy application can't not stop starting crash sessions every five minutes.  Sad Hold me.

My summary of the situation:

AMD managed to come out on top, after who knows how many years of being the underdog, 2 years ago. They got lazy once they hit the top and Intel managed to retake the top of the hill. Currently, AMD is scrambling to do something to put them somewhere near the top again.

But this is coming from someone who doesn't have any real experience to be writing this summary and 100% of this is assumption/my opinion.

I use to think AMD were just as stable and reliable as Intel.... Then I got an intel chip... I was wrong.
