I guess they're running this on cnet's Vista Information Page too... I wonder how mad microsoft is that cnet sold ad space to Apple on a Vista information page promoting a competitor.

Along the lines of making fun of Microsoft, I enjoyed this article. Clearly it is not a totally fair comparison due to the humor aspect involved, but the heart of the article is so true.

Funny, but not unusual. And its not Microsoft making the ads, its their ad agency. And I believe something like 99% of ad agencies use Macs.
Thats really where Macs are best, with video and graphics (non-gaming graphics of course).

Very true.
Macs > PCs for most multimedia applications. Hands down, no questions asked.

Uhm, I have a question... Is this still true since they run on the same hardware now? Do they have exclusively awesome apps or something? If I'm in the multimedia industry and I'm willing to pay can I get someone to make exclusive equally or even more awesome apps for PC? What do you mean no questions? You can't just say no questions, I've got questions. What are you from f***ing Alaska? Here on planet earth it's proper to respond to people's serious inquiries with sincere, informative answers.

There are currently more *Polished* apps for multimedia use on Apple computers than on PC.
the second half of it is the culture of the Advertising industry...
And yes, technically you could build equal or better applications on the PC. No one has done it yet, and all of Microsoft's attempts have been half ass'd.

What Latro said.
Multimedia applications at the hobbyist levels will not see a major difference between Mac vs PC. The same apps exist, the same functionality exists, and most things work. Granted, you'll spend a lot more time making things work in Windows, but that's another story.
Where Mac's really shine for multimedia is professional audio or video. I haven't done any studio work for a few years, but I never walked into a studio that used PCs for anything but office work. Workflow (especially w/ video), hardware compatibility, and a few other things just work on Macs. They can work for Windows, but the amount of jerry rigging and hair pulling necessary isn't worth it.
In the end, there is no clear winner. Macs do not crush PCs for professional audio or video work; you can get the same thing done with either. It comes down to personal preference, and I found the Mac OS/GUI to be much more design friendly than windows.
Maybe I'm crazy.

I am currently debating between a Mac Book Pro and a similar performing computer for the half the price. If this job prospect works out I am going to have them buy a high end laptop for me so that I can work from both home and the office.
But I need to find some place where I can try out the Mac before deciding. Unfortunately Montana does not have an Apple store so that is going to be hard to do.

Get the Mac.. Give it a try (they sell them at Best Buys if you have some there) and return it if you hate it. They'll take it back.

I will check Best Buy.
Laby, do you mind pointing out a few specific things you really liked about designing on a mac?
