It looks like you had either a problem with

A. Paged Pool Memory Available being set to high
or
B. Your graphical settings were up too high

If the problem continues, turn off anti aliasing and drop filtering mode to bi/trilinear

You should be able to run this game at High settings, if not a lot closer to high settings with your system.

My guess is that your video card is overheating which creates graphical errors (artifacts) and can cause lagging.

I'd recommend you RMA your card.

And rofl.

before rma you can always try dusting out your fan and heatsink.  works wonders.  my 7950gt was having heat issues this summer and i wound up scrapping the heatsink for a 3rd party cooler.

odd though that youre not seeing similar problems in other games.  but i r not a genius so listen to these other guys.

Erm, maybe. I've got a 7950GX2 w/ 4800 X2 at stock clock speed and I can pull high if I like FPS drops. If I run everything on low I can pull 60 fps solid, but when I'm up around high it's 20-30fps.

L4D is a ton more resource intensive on my machine than most other source engine games.

Weird.

I have an Intel E6750 and am running an 8800GT at 1680x1050 at full everything with no frame drop or lag issues.  Maybe Left 4 Dead loves me more than you.

Well, there's a huge difference between an E6750/8800GT and a 4800X2/7950GX2 or at least big enough of a difference.

Googling rma'ing my card.

Quote
A Return Merchandise Authorization or Return Material Authorization (RMA) is a transaction whereby the recipient of a product arranges to return defective goods to the supplier to have the product repaired or replaced or in order to receive a refund or credit for another product from the same retailer or corporation. In practice, an RMA is only issued after a series of tests.

Working on it now.

Probably because L4D has true Multi-Core support enabled... finally.

Although on my desktop I can get down to 25-30 FPS, I don't really notice it (same with ping). Probably because my initial rig (Althon 2000+/512MB Ram/Radeon 9200) would run CSS at >30 when I played Office. Sad

Killa I ran into some issues with mouse lockup/keyboard no-response and sound lagging....

I fixed my problem by disabling Vertical Sync. Just make sure that's off, with it on my 3.0ghz athlon x2 + radeon 4850 + 4gb of memory still glitches and lags.....
