If you are going to build a new computer (as I am) I would wait until March. What comes in March? Intel's new set of processors is released, driving down prices of older models. Also, the new graphics cards come out around then, SATA 6.0 will be more prominent, USB 3.0 might even be out. There are great advantages of wait a little while, right now.

I'm putting together a high end PC for work and am upgrading some of the components on mine. I'll post up an entire box later today - but I'd need to know if you mind rebates. They are pretty good for booking a retail price and getting a bonus back. Couple other things - the new Intel 45nm CPU's are out. The dual core Wolfdales and quad core Yorkfields are going to consume less power and run cooler at comparable clock speeds to the predecessors. I'm installing my first e8400 Wolfdale into my own PC today.

Wow... I'm still running a 7 series and haven't found a game I can't run. yeah they're going crazy fast w/ new cards. my 7900 gs still runs just fine w/ games of today but is starting to meet its limit w/ the balance of performance/quality in games. i'm still happy cuz i can play cod4 sorta fine w/ pretty high quality. i find it funny when players on css boast about their fps from their 8800gts (or better). like c'mon...it's a 2004 game....

And I'm not even OC'ed - I can easily push .7 ghz more out of my CPU with a multiplier to push the ram up to 270 and a few hundred megahertz more out of my GPU.

You must not own any new games Laby. Pretty much any DirectX 10 game is going to run at mere high-med settings, not very high. I can only run CoH in DX9 on a 4x AA. Even then I'm not averaging 60+, and it sometimes drops below 20! CoH is an old game.
The new series is supposed to run twice as fast, that means you can finally run Crysis on very high with a tolerable frame rate without dual Ultras. IMO the graphics cards are catching up, not staying ahead.

CoD4, UT, The Witcher, TF2. Pretty much everything but Crysis still runs 40+ fps constant at max settings. Yes, I can only get med-high settings out of crysis, but that game was designed for some nonexistant super computer resembling the monoliths from 2001 A Space Odyssey.

In all fairness sir you can't test out max settings in most those games on your card, because it doesn't support them. I'm still impressed that it can run COD4 at max settings. But I'd bet that it's the reason you said "pretty much everything" can do 40+. And even still, I find it rather annoying when my frame rate drops that low. But that's just me, and I'm weird. I'm sure I'll end up being one of the retards that payed full price for a 9800 because of one game.
