BIOS says like 42ish...
Arctic silver's website on socket AM2 processors was not that helpful. . . (it just said place rice sized in middle and then set heat sink. No spreading was mentioned (while explicitly mentioned for some of the other processors). Maybe I didnt' do it right?

It's OC'd now at 3.0 something ghz i see a rise in temp in windows when I'm running stuff (30's), however I assume cool n' quiet does quite a bit, especially since this is a 65 nm processor (your 3.0 ghz socket 939 probably runs hotter to begin with).

But it's probably a screwy reading... though I find it strange that the same reading shows up in speedfan and hardware monitor...

Any tips on arctic silver?

If the BIOS says 42*C, I'd trust the BIOS.

I've never seen a socket 939 run at 10*C on Air, even with the window open. I've seen a few awesome water rigs get close to that, but that's about it.

Coldest I've ever gotten mine on air is 26*C, it usually hovers right around 37.

It was a 1.8ghz 3000+.

As far as thermal paste, the local PC shop told me to make sure it was covered, but as thin as possible, even see-through thin.  And that makes sense cause it's only purpose is to fill in any voids between the heatsink and CPU, and to the human eye both those surfaces look flat.  One of those article silver tubes could last you a lifetime.

Trust BIOS's temps.  I think it essentially relays the info to your software, so looking at it cuts out the middle man.  The other software's readings is likely a driver or windows error.

actually yeah it's 42 underload in windows (just checked again with software)

It would be the same in bios because cool n' quiet and multiplier adjustments are not enabled until booted into windows (thus full 3.0ghz before windows boots, and full underload in windows)

so yeah you guys are right, it's 40's under load.

FYI it isn't a socket 939 nor is it a 90nm processor, it's one of em brisbane's...

FYI libtech, the Brisbane 5000+ is a 65W TDP Wink

The best temps I ever obtained on my Oc'd C2D E6600 (3.15Ghz) was 33C idle and 45C full load, which was in the dead of winter. Currently at idle (which is 50% load due to folding@home) is at 42C, and full load is in the low 50's.

Ack yeah it's 65 W <---- nubbbbed.

But yeah Core2Duo's usually run cooler at full load (than amd), but warmer while idling. Anyways i do get up in the 40's underload (not even full needed) so it makes sense now.
