heyo, i got a question on upgrading my gfx card. i currently have the evga 7900gs KO card. but now i want to upgrade:

evga 8800gt akimbo:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130347

what i'm asking is if i should buy it NOW? i wanted to wait for it to go cheaper but the superclocked version of this card just went out of stock on newegg and it's been barely listed for like a month. i'm taking this as a sign for the 9800gt cards to finally arrive since it was indicated it'd come out march/april.

also note (mainly to jed): the g92 8800gts (225 bucks) cards are rather appealing to me. unfortunately, i'd have to buy a new psu. so i'll take a slight performance hit with the 8800gt instead.

Why the new PSU sir?  BTW, what I was recommending before was the older non-g92 GTS.  The GT does perform distinctly better without AA, but almost universally performs distinctly worse with it.  Which is why if I were you I'd probably go with the older one if you like AA.

according to evga's website: the 8800gts cards need at minimum 26 amps on the 12 v. but my current psu only supplies 22 amps. while the 8800gt akimbo only needs 22 amps.

wow it would be amazing to find the 320bit (older) 8800gts for that price... let alone the newer g92 based GTS.

From what I've read, the g92 based 8800gts is OVERALL better in performance than the older 8800gts.
(Even the 8800gt (g92 based) in this review destroys the old 8800gts http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3140&p=7)

Even with anti-aliasing, the new weaker and renamed geforce 9600gt (aka 8800gt but slower) beats the 8800gts 640mb (old g80).

(my power supply is some 500w with (i can't remember) less than optimal amperage for my 7900gs, yet it's been working for awhile? technically if you can run the 8800gt, you should be able to run the 8800gts (g92 versions) as they are based off of the same construction/pcb though manufactures are usually trying to be safe about it)

I would personally go for a g92 based card definitely.

I won't be bothered to find them, but I have found extremely contradictory benchmarks in the past on Toms hardware.

according to the requirements on evga website, the g92 8800gts takes more amps on the 12 v line than the 8800gt. which is why i am only considering the 8800gt.
