ethernet port not detected

i had to reinstall windows from a friend's cd but windows cannot detect the lan on the ethernet port. so i'm dependent on my wireless card. i've tried to create an internet connection but that was no good. would i need to install some sort of driver of my mobo for windows to recognize the ethernet connection? i feel so noeby right now.

yes. find out what type of ethernet adapter you have.  install the driver.
