I've been doing some research in reference to the title, and according to what I've been reading Dx 10, unlike its long lived predecessor, that's Dx 9 for those with numerical learning disabilities, is only going to last a maximum of four years before Direct X 11 comes out. Now the key difference here is that Direct X 9 hardware was cut off with Windows XP, what I mean by this is that Direct X 9 hardware, such as my AWSOME 2004 ATI Radeon X600 Graphics card does not work with Vista and it's Dx 10 capabilities. Getting back to the difference, Dx 10 hardware will work with Dx 11 which is due to come out in the next 2 years or so.

So, in conclusion, my question to you is this. Me, being horrible with a wrench and screwdriver, which means Im the last person able to build my own rig so upgrading is out of the question unless I hire someone or a friend, is it worth it to buy my new rig now, or wait a few months for further developments? Don't know which path to take.

Best path to take.

Spend 30 minutes figuring out how to take your computer apart and put it back together. It's no where near as hard as people make it out to be.

Then you can upgrade, and you'll be set for life.

If Killa can do it, so can you.

I would wait until Christmas my friend.  Christmas time equals good deals.  Also tech manufacturers love to release new lines around this time, which signals a price drop on their old stuff or an upgrade on their high end.

Thanks, both of you, however I couldn't find any announcements in reference to new hardware coming out around Christmas despite my looking, do you have any info about anything significant?

Nvidia likes to release stuff almost every November with rare exceptions (if memory serves).  And Nehalem will be coming out.

Companies like Nvidia generally don't announce future product release dates.  All you'll get is fairly accurate rumor and speculation up until about a week from the actual release.

Wait until January if you can.

That way you'll have your choice of new end stuff for decent prices or old stuff for really cheap. You can brave the holidays if you want, but you'll pay more in Dec/Nov.

Are you talking about open box deals or what?

No.

Post-holiday sales in January are huge for any retailer. I don't think the tech industry has a usual date for big sales other than post holiday. I know clothing companies usually have big sales in January and July, and some have big ones in September. They tend to be the most predictable industry as they run off the seasons.
