Hmm... It ran just as fast as XP for me. You must just be imagining things again.

Now I know you're a liar.

It will be better than a Dell.  But it will take years of R&D for Vista to run "fine" on anything less than a supercomputer.
Wtf Jed you are crazy.

I was running Vista on my C2D E4600 with 4GB of Ram and it ran superbly. Sure it may use 500-600MB, but when you have 4GB it doesn't matter.

However, the 4870's have hit the market, $309 on average.

I believe the above perfectly summarizes what is wrong with Vista.

500-600MB of RAM usage by the OS alone is beyond stupid. When you must boast a powerful computer to run your OS, you know something is wrong with the OS.

Whether or not you can run the OS smoothly should be a moot point, the issue should be can I run Crysis at 1900000000x122200000 at .0002fps or not.
You guys don't realize that Vista adjusts to how much ram you have... If you have 4GB (or 3.xx as 32-bit is) then it will use more to run faster. If you have 1GB... then it'll use less.

Um... XP, OS X, Linux all do this too...

Well actually in a few years it will be Windows 7, which will be based on Vista.

AMD is gradually improving their drivers and boosting older cards speed.  It's a start...

I have never tried running Vista with 1GB of RAM.  But with two it still took over 800 megs to boot.  I'm assuming that is uses more of the pagefile when you have less RAM.  Which is still insane.

Look at how large the default pagefile is.  We have 4GB of RAM + 8GB of pagefile!?  Yikes.  I don't want to know why a personal computer would ever need 4GB of memory.  Much less 12.

Meh, I'll shut up.  I'm not trying to attack your opinions logic.  Just bring out that I've had a very opposite experience with Vista.  I'm glad that it has worked for you because it will be our primary Windows option in a few years.

And I see no reason why anyone will ever need more than 640K of memory.

Just cause you can't see it, doesn't mean it aint comin down the pipes.  Some day there may well be a good reason for needing that much ram.

I get the feeling we'll be using quantum computers before operating systems will actually NEED 12gb of RAM.
