1st off, I'm using an MX510... I love it but it has been acting up with some "lag" like symptoms (it doesn't move but it moves later.. kind of like when you choke up in cs:s). I DO have setpoint installed and everything. Any ideas what the problem might be?

Otherwise, I'm going to buy a mouse any suggestions? (along with mousepads... and if you're an expert, I use 13.1 sensitivity if that factors in). So which mice would you guys recommend and which mousepads?

13.1 sensitivity on a MX510? Are you insane?

Other than that, G5 would be the mouse I would recommend, since its basically a step up from the 510. Then you'll have to do some math to figure out your new sens (since its 2k DPI vs 4/800)

mx518 does just fine. bigger range of dpi than mx510 i believe. and for fps games, you definitely don't need a mouse that does 2000 gajillion dpi.

Avoid the G5!

I've used it before and after ESReality mouse benchmark (it's down right now or else I'd link to it), I decided it was definitely not what I was looking for.

518, Death Adder, or Lachesis (if you like hte super small mouse feel) are your best bet.

No. Find another MX510.  Never replace the MX510.  You'll anger the Gods.

Yeah I figured that one out the hard way, now I suck at CS. When I had my 510 I was unbeatable.

I've used the same MX510 for probably 3 years now.  I don't know what I'll do when it dies.

I have tried alot of mice.  My lastest ones have been mostly razer mice.  With the exception of the mx518 which is a descent mouse.  The razer mice that I have tried are the diamond back which is still one of my favorites cause of the low profile but the buttons tend to stick so you have to take the mouse apart and clean it.  The death adder I tried after the diamond back cause I wanted to try something new and I liked it alot.  Then i wanted to give the Lachesis a try cause of the hype of 4000 dpi. But I could never get use to the award shape, the profile and the 4000dpi wasn't so great.  So I went back to my death adder and will probably never try another mouse again for awhile.

Oh and mouse pads I like cloth. I have tried razer mantis, xtrac ripper and the DKT mouse pad. Which all are  huge pads.  DKT is by far my favorite it has last me the longest.  The razer and ripper mouse pads after awhile they lose there tracking after a couple months. In which ever corner of the mouse pad you have been using.  I know nothing about glass mouse pads.

Avoid G5!

I replaced my 510 with the 518 and love it.  The only downside is setpoint.  The shape of these mice is the best I have ever felt.  It fits in your hand so perfectly and the buttons are an appropriate distance.

The only Razer I would consider is the Lachesis.  If you're willing to spend 2x as much as a 518 it is something to consider.  It's shape is odd and I've heard people complain it quite a bit.  But it does offer 4000dpi and is probably the lightest mouse you'll ever use.  Plus it has 9 buttons!

Lachesis you are taking a high risk.  If you want something similar to the mx510 get the death adder or go with the mx518.  If you want a change go with razer mice you will never go back.

Opinion: The Death Adder only has 5 buttons and is not a very good shape.  Plus it costs more.  The only argueable "advantage" is the software.  I know many people from the Logitech MX crowd that would consider it a downgrade.

I do agree that the Lachesis is a high risk.  Especially with the cost.  But as you say if he wants a major change it is a good candidate.  But he could easily end up unhappy.

The Death Adder is a great shape.  It is very similar to the mx 518.

Compare the actual benchmarks.

We can banter about subjective opinion all day long, but it won't get us anywhere.

As long as we are bandying about opinion:

The death adder shape is far superior to the lachesis shape. It's larger, is more comfortable and is designed to fit the right hand. In comparison, the lachesis is the typical tiny razer mouse and works for either hand.

In terms of sole benchmarks, the razer mice beat the logitech series. Although, we all know how much personal preference comes into play with mice. It's like cars - Sure the Nissan GTR performs better than a lot of cars, but some people still find it butt ugly. The person won't drive an ugly car, thus making the car worthless.

Pathetic analogy, I know, but it conveys my point.

More or less, you should be looking at the 518, Death Adder, and Lachesis. Any mice beyond those is pretty worthless.

Except for the intellimouse 3.0. Gawd that thing was amazing.

Edit:

Yes, it is very similar. The design of the Death Adder was a combination of the 518 shape and the Intellimouse shape. Sadly they combined to create an annoying knob in the middle, but it's still a nice blend.
