hey does anyone else like mma here?
ive been watching it for quite some time but just recently got more interested in it within the last year.
there was a fight that was on last saturday and most of them never went to the ground, which is a bit disappointing. it seems as if its turning a little more to boxing.
i think, not for the terminology, that the rear naked choke has to be my most favorite submission move. close second is a kimura.

Effing love it.
Rear naked choke is great. Arm bar is glorious. Most of the fights on Saturday were meh, but I Rampage/Silva was great.

i think the terminology comes with watching it. i didnt really know it either earlier this year, but i got it after watching it a few times.
saturday's fights were ok. i was upset over the Mir/Noguera fight. i think i enjoyed the griffin/evans fight more. sure it was a main event, but griffin shows quite the sportsmanship. and i think i enjoy that more when someone gets their face beat in and is ok with the loss.
i tend to stick with watching ufc more than affliction and all the others that are out there.
does/did anyone watch the ultimate fighter on spike?

I did. I'm actually glad Mir won. I think Mir/Lesnar will be a better fight than Mir/Nogiuera would have been.
And Griffin is the man. He's a classy guy for sure.

I f***ing love mma being from a wrestling backround. We used to mess around before practice doing bjj moves and subs.
Although most of the fights never went to the ground I was pretty entertained. My comments:
-Light heavyweight division is stacked in the ufc.
-I called Jackson winning the Silva/Jackson grudge match from a mile away. Silva isn't what he used to be from Pride.
-Im glad Mir won, and I think he has a chance against Lesnar if he doesn't get caught. Although if Lesnar improves his technique he could be close to unstoppable cause he's so f***ing huge.
-I didn't find Mir to be disrespectful at all during tuf show.
-Although this borders on mma treason, I never really liked nogs style of fighting. During his big fights he never really dominates or is explosive, I prefer guys who go for the jugular. He kind of grinds it out and catches his opponents in subs. I mean, he really good at what he does, but I like guys who actively try to create openings instead of looking to catch one like nog.
-While we're on the subject of heavyweight mma, we need Emelianenko in the ufc. He would destroy anyone in the ufc heavyweight division right now.
-I can't wait for the GSP/BJ Penn 2 fight coming in about a month.

I think Mir is the better opponent against Lesnar than Nog. However, i totally disagree with your comment about Mir not being disrespectful during the show. there were many times i was just disgusted at his attitude a-la 'holier than thou'. that being said, i think his comments after the Nog fight were commendable and i now see him a bit differently. he's like a gamer - talks a bunch of shit and thinks he's the best and then somewhat appears humble after a hugely anticipated fight. im OK with him for now... Nog's style of fighting is something different and i think he does bring a certain amount of zen to mma. i would like to see more of him being a coach rather than a fighter because he does bring out the best sportsmanship in the guys he trains. (PS i loved the hugger dude) all i have to say is GSP is so effin hot id lick the sweat of his bare chest. but thats not sayin much cause i also think Dana White is sexy. And Boss. lol. |

I only saw disrespect when he was dealing with Junie. I didn't catch any disrespect towards anyone on the other team or Noguiera.
I can't wait for the GSP/Penn fight. As much as I hate french canadians as a rule, he's pretty badass, but I'm pulling for Penn. I love that guy.
And Gina Carano... There's something about a girl that could kick your ass.
I'd like to be in her guard. Or maybe a full mount.

As for Mir, he does have a weird intellectual stigma about him, but he wasn't really disrespectful. The only scene that I can think of that bordered on disrespectful was when he didn't tell his guys to stop pulling pranks on the show and that's more of a preference in coaching style. Junie was a bitch and deserved to be talked down to by Mir. I dunno, I think Mir's a pretty cool guy and one of the more articulate mma fighters/coaches around which in turn makes him a great mma fight announcer for WEC. Sometimes I wish the UFC had a more experienced announcer like him or when Cotoure was a guest commentator. Every other sport has commentators that have played the game.
