so i installed Ubuntu (gutsy gibbon) on my laptop, and started playing with Gimp. Though not as potent as Photoshop (which to be honest i have only used once to make my avatar), it is extremely fun. Here is my first attempt, its a wallpaper for my lappy.

woot.

Incredibly nice first time.  My first photoshops were simple jobs that were mocked endlessly, but not yours.

As a side note, your laptops resolution is precisely 1/4 that of the monitor I'm about to buy.

No... I'm sure its great at what it does.. It just always felt like it was hindering my photo edit attempts.   Like it knew exactly what I wanted to do, and did everything possible to make me search for hours to find the one button that would fix everything...

I'm finally running fully Linux on my work comp.  Unfortunately, I had to install a virtual machine (virtualbox running in seamless mode) for the occasional Windows program.
