I'm going to be going through some photo's i'm trying to scan and archive them. What is the best format to do this in.  Jpeg, Png, Tiff? or any others that i don't know? not to worried about the size of the file i would perfer quality over size. I've tried to do some search's on the intraweb.  It seems that tif is the recommend format when quality is desired.  What are your guys thoughts?

Dirrty, if your scanning photos the quality will already be reduced.  Make sure your scanner is incredibly clean & dry.  If it is slightly wet dust will stick to it like mad, and you won't notice 'til you've scanned a photo.

A high-quality Jpg will work perfectly for your needs.  The only time you don't save a photo as a jpg is if you designed the image, you don't have a layered/editable version and you want to come back later and edit it.  Than you will notice an extremely small loss of quality.

Tiff is a great file for high res prints.  It is not such a great format for the home user because export filters sometimes do weird things with it.  Plus it is not portable (especially for the web).

I would strongly recommend jpegs.  But make sure they are on the high quality setting.

It would be smart to note that the screenshots in that guide are of fairly compressed jpegs.  The compression you'd actually use wouldn't be noticeable.
