Ok, no one got cut because we didn't have more than 12 apply. Meaning, everyone who applied is now a member of the team, and will be members of the team until they get themselves kicked out. You should create a channel in Vent just for scrimming... make it password protected and turn off announcements. This keeps people from coming in and being loud while scrimming and also when people join the channel it's not all loud. IMHO

Usually later at night (9-11pm or so). We've run a few scrims each day for the past few days.
I think mandatory practices are a terrible idea. When there are five on and playing CS, would should try to at least get 1 scrim in.

Agreed. We need to be scrimmaging at least once a night, ideally twice. With 12 members, not everyone is going to be able to scrim at once, thus it is imperative for us to scrim as much as possible to get used to working together.
The CAL season is imminent, thus we need to prepare accordingly.

Then you must have it turned off. When people join up into vent it usually announces their name and what channel they joined. Its very annoying if they have really long names.
