I won't offer an indepth review on this, but I will quickly jott down my thoughts and point out my favorite tracks.
Summary: Enjoyable, unique, but not on par with St. Elsewhere. At the same time, the darker, retro vibe is in a different vibe than St. Elsewhere, making it hard to compare them. Take the microcosm of uneasiness found in St. Elsewhere and expand it to a full CD - that is what The Odd Couple. is.
Mini-Review
I wasn't sure how to approach this CD - it was all over the place. So I'll tackle it from the feel of the CD, the technicality of the music, and my favorite songs.
Feel: The tracks almost appear to be a cacophony when viewed as a whole. There is a dark, mature vibe which was a subtle undertone in St. Elsewhere which really blossoms on this CD. It's almost as if that uneasiness people experienced during 'Crazy' has been refined into an entire CD. By far and wide, the chilling uneasiness is what addicts me to this CD.
Technicality: the beats in this CD were usually pretty complex. The shortness of said tracks is almost made up for my their complexity, but not quite. The vocals add quite a bit to most tracks, complimenting the tracks where the lack and allowing the beats to shine through where they should. I'm biased here as I love Cee-Lo's voice.
Favorite songs: Open Book, Whose Gonna Save My Soul (music video was awesome for this one too), Going On
Score: 7/10 Recommended: Partially
