Well, Waffles of BABS sent me here since our clan forums are all but dead in hopes that someone could assist.

I've been completely obsessed with the cello for about 2 years now, and have attempted many times at purchasing one but it always boiled down to I don't know what to look for. Years ago I played the trumpet and bought one for 100$ thinking it was a good deal, 2 months later it ended up as a planter at my grandmothers because it sounded like I was attempting to play through a car muffler, so I'm trying to avoid something like that.

Any information anyone could give me as to price, brand, etc to look for would be good.

Is that all you play Latro?

I took Piano lessons for two years a while back.  It's pretty much all I know.  I'd like to start learning again though.

Most quality instruments are going to cost you a bare minimum of $800 or more.

My recommendation is to rent before you buy if you are just starting out. If you have been playing an instrument for a while and want something that you can call your own, then go ahead and shell out the cash.

As for brand, etc. Find a good teacher in your area, sign yourself up for some lessons and then ask him. He/she should know.

I basically thought all of that, but needed to be affirmed from another. Thank you.

if only a bari sax was in the less than 1K range for anything quality, it's more like 5-10K for me, my old alto is a used and abused piece of crap that i can't stand playing so than I suck because i don't play anymore.

It's all about the clavichord baby.  Not only is it the coolest instrument ever, play that thing for an hour and you don't need to work out the next day!  Woohoo?

False.

The clavichord must be played while stationary, therefore ruling it out of the running for 'coolest instrument ever'

All true.

I did it again, I was thinking the accordion.  Honestly, who thinks a clavichord could be the coolest instrument ever?  I didn't even know what one was until I looked it up just now.

Listen to the band Apocalyptica (Their own shit, not their god damned Metallica covers everyone knows them for) and you'll hear why the Cello owns face.

Apocalyptica is great. However, you must admit that their "Nothing Else Matters" cover is sick.

Apocalyptica and/or Yo Yo Ma = sexay!

their covers ARE good, I'm just sick and tired of them being synonymous with those covers. They do other work, which imo, is better.
