Always Angry, All the Time.

« on: October 03, 2007, 11:21:31 AM »

Contrary to BABS, you guys don't know me as the angriest person alive... yet.

Either way, Hi, my name is Patrick, but most of you know me as Gooses (if you know me at all). I'm a 21 year old college I don't know what year because transfer credits have completely screwed me. I'd assume Senior, but that's probably wrong. Anyway, I currently work at a liquor store and hate every minute of it. I'm actually not going to work right now to instead type this out. Wooo being uninspired. Uh.. My interests no one really cares about aside from CS:S, so yea. And for those of you that have heard me rambling about my computer stats... yea, I'm serious. I play on a 1.7ghz (pentium 4) Dell with a Geforce 5700FX, 768mb of ram, a random microsoft laser mouse, an IBM keyboard, with the mouse/keyboard resting on a plank of wood which is thrown over my knees so I can play. I really should take pictures so I can show you the shit show that is my gaming hobby. BUT I plan to get a new computer come January depending if I can set up some crazy monthly payment system where the interest doesn't completely rape me.

Oh yea, and I love to scout.
[EDIT] Oh.. Also, I'm east coast.

How could you HATE working in a liquor store? That's my dream.

It's a "High End" liquor store where most of the people come in mispronounce french names in a hope of sounding more cultured and intelligent. 90% of those walking through the door either think their shit doesn't stink, or are so caught up in their daily grind of their pathetic lives they only come into the store to get handle of cheap vodka to wash away their problems. Also, the work itself is unbearable mind numbing, where most of your day is spent walking around trying to look busy so you don't get yelled at for not doing anything. Keep in mind there is very rarely little to do, with the exception of the days orders come in, so most of your time you're reading backs of labels in hopes that it makes you look busy enough to be left alone.

Someone came in and asked for a Cab-er-net Sov-IG-Non (Cabernay Sauvinyawn is how it's really pronounced). Pronounced exactly like that. Another person asked for a Mer-LOT (Mer-low). I could go on, but I'm pretty sure you get the idea. The best part about these people is they considered themselves Wine Connoisseur yet can barely flounder through the French language enough for us to understand what the hell they're asking for.

That's a funny tale.  I wouldn't mind a job where I had nothing to do, so long as I didn't get yelled at for doing it.  Because you could get payed to read a book, play online, nap...

Might I recommend picking up a $150 dollar clearance HP (or something) from Walmart or Costco, then purchasing a $90 8600.  I did this back in the day with a 9600Pro and the computer was uber quite and cranked out some incredibly outstanding FPS for the price.

Well, If I wasn't yelled at all the time it'd be the greatest job ever. They actually threatened to bring me up on charges for using the internet while working (apparently in the thing I had to sign to work there it said I wouldn't use the internet at all..). So yea, they're all uptight prics. The plan for the comp is basically to pay 130-170 a month for a 2 grand comp (2.4g Quad Core, Geforce 8800, 2gs of ram). Thank you for the idea though, I'll look into it.

Whole sale on everything. I just bought a bottle of "energy vodka" for 12$ when we sell it for 29.99.

Roger that.  I have a high performance machine.  But, $3000 to run games at max settings verse $250 to run them at max in most games and medium in some, is it worth it?

However, every game that comes out after November appears to require far nicer specs.

I borrowed a friends older PC (since he just upgraded) until I upgrade myself.

Processor = 1.7 ---> 3.0
Ram = 512 ---> 1gb
Vid Card - 9800 Pro ---> ...9800 Pro

good enough for now, so I'm back in the game bitches.

Edit: Went from 9-20 fps with casey's config, to 70-80 fps with medium settings...
