I somehow think the slave owning racist adulterer would be bad for your campaign and not a huge fan of a black president.

Pretty much every post above correctly states that Jefferson lived in a VERY different time and social situation.  My point was that his intellect was light years beyond MOST of the people that have lived on the planet, and that he would have been able to take in pretty much any new information / enlightenment and excel.  So to your point Duracell:

You said he was an adulterer - so are a majority of men, notably including sitting Presidents.
His standout affair was with a black woman - makes you doubt that he was as racist as you just implied.
You question his wisdom in regards to supporting a black president - so how bout we compare his Wikipedia page with that of Barack Obama's, or anyone else in this forum that thinks they can compete with his wisdom / intellect / decision making / accomplishments.

You're argument is essentially based on time machines but okay.

He was a blatant obnoxious racist. His views on slavery, while highly hypocritical involved sending back freed slaves (which he never made a real attempt at) back to Africa because they weren't on the same level as living with whites in his society. There is no argument here, he owned slaves, he was a racist, don't try to argue that. His "affair(s)" were not of love, he was a racist. If you've ever dealt with people from earlier eras in regards to race, you know they are not easily changed.

To quote him directly:

"[t]he amalgamation of whites with blacks produces a degradation to which no lover of his country, no lover of excellence in the human character, can innocently consent."

I don't "question his wisdom" in supporting a half black president, nor do I see where you even draw that inference from, but I know for a fact what he did in his lifetime. And your last sentence is unintelligible to me, but I will say without deciphering it, he was a politician. How honest and great of a person do you really think he was? He set great groundwork, great, but he isn't Jesus.

My point toward adultery stands because of your argument (also based on time machines) fails to recognize what I was invoking; Clinton, Spitzer etc. is not highly tolerated.

Comparing Wikipedia articles and time machines.     k.

Both of you can shut the f*** up, I was on a roll man.  A ROLL.  And I was pretty drunk.  Sides they all get bleeped so it just makes it so much fun to use them.

So, someone can't be knowledgeable, scientific, and still say f*** a lot?  If that's what you're saying, I'm sure there are plenty of extremely educated, knowledgeable scientists that would disagree with you.

So f*** off.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."

The whole separation of church and state is taken out of context from the text in the actual first amendment.  There is nothing that says there can't be a statue of the ten commandments in a federal building.  All the first amendment says is that the US can't make an official religion, or ban or discriminate against any religion.

Today the constitution isnt considered simply a literal document but rather a "living document" people read into it and interpret it their own way to support their positions on some things and take it literally for other things. Some people may view that the inclusion of the ten commandments in a courtroom while not an establishment of a religious faith is certainly an endorsement of one. It goes beyond the more generic "under god" / "in god we trust" which i really dont see the problem with. I'm not sure the endorsement argument is the strongest but at the same time I question the need for them to be there in the first place. What if a judge put a passage from the Koran or a quote from Buddha in a courtroom, would you want it out?

and to Latro I dont want to argue over this but if that was indeed sarcasm it was the best use of sarcasm i have ever seen, nothing says sarcasm like continuing to be an adherent for religion in government and strong spiritual beliefs after thats what you have posted previously in this thread and prior threads

also dont forget that f*** is teh most versatile word in the english language and whilke not professional or plite definitel has its place in our language
