Women Of Warcraft?
I thought virtual worlds like Azeroth and Second Life were dominated by fifteen-year-old boys, but Nielsen Entertainment begs to differ: a new study shows that 64% of online gamers are women.
But before you log into World of Warcraft looking to pick up chicks, consider this: I'm willing to bet these numbers are hugely skewed by women playing flash games on Yahoo, AOL, and so on. Virtual worlds and immersive role playing games are still testosterone city.
What happens if this percentage of gamers comes to CS? How could we allow so many women to become aggressive, sleepy-eyed waifs just wasting away at the computer when they should be (window) shopping and such? And this on the tail-end of a report that says the percentage of college students are now female (and the divide is growing in their favor).
Seriously, though, this is encouraging. Like MIT's project to put laptops in the hands of the children of 3rd-world countries.
