I know this is old. I'm slow. Okay?
The new battle.net is pretty awesome. Not as awesome as steam, but I love how I can add games to my account and DL anywhere. Granted, I'm not sure when I will be reinstalling wc3 or wow, but the possibility is cool.
I'm also lazy - are there any catch 22's? Can I only have the game installed in one place, are there a limited number of installs, will blizzard use my information to send a large bald man named tony to my house to 'make friends' with me?

no limit on installs, no, and as long as you're not too retarded as to who you give your info out to, you can share it with a friend or two probably

and the beta is done for a few weeks... It was just starting to take over my life and bring me back to video games... Maybe I can get back to making money.... until the official game is released and my life is yet again set back by wasted time on video games.

Latro, you make video games sound like masochism.

isn't it?
When I stopped playing CSS and removed windows games from my computer... I built a $2500 a month residual income stream and a side business with 400% profit for each project.
Starcraft II beta on Mac launches... and my growth in both those areas went to 0.
I'll explain more later, but its time for TF2 on my Mac..
Doh..

I see what you are saying, but I'm going to play devils advocate here.
Assuming that money is a means to an end (happiness) and not an end itself:
Money and video games can bring you happiness. It depends on the how function of happiness(time) of games compares to making money or any other activity. Finding the combination of activities from these various functions that brings the maximum happiness is the combination you should choose.
----
This is an entirely theoretical example and I realize that reality mucks things up.
Gaming tends to take a lot of time. Time you can use to do other, often more rewarding, things. Yet, games aren't intrinsically masochistic. Rather, the application of video games by the user is sometimes masochistic.
