Counter Strike 1.6 was released in 1998. Counter Strike Source was released in 2004. That's 6 years in-between 1.6 and source and five years currently for Source until....This is whats pissing me off. The fact that an announcement hasn't been made for a new counterstrike. I don't care if it takes them 5 years to develop from now, I want reassurance that its coming. I mean, honestly, Counter Strike is Valves' biggest money making game, and I don't understand why there isn't more attention given to it. Ive combed the internet with a god damn toothbrush and the closest thing Ive come up with is a crappy version of CZ for Korean gamers, released this year. I mean come on give me a bone to chew.

I imagine we'll see the next CS (if there is one) when HL3 is released. I see that being a long, long way off.

The next major update to the game should be moving it on to the Orange Box engine, which will do a ton of interesting things.

I honestly don't see why they wouldn't its the key money maker as I stated above for valve, if they want a boost in revenue, that's the way to do it. Other than Wow, I dont know any game that has as many players as Css globally.

     23,473    95,510         Counter-Strike: Source
     19,826    76,539         Counter-Strike
     9,559    15,629         Team Fortress 2
     2,395    10,971         Condition Zero

Those are the top four games on Steam. If you combine those numbers for CS, currently 45,694 people playing those three games. That's more people that just every game sans WoW (although I don't know how many concurrent players play WoW). Why would they risk deterring fans by making another CS?

You do remember that they risked deterring fans by making another CS when they made CS:S right?

With 10 million concurrent subscribers... even 10% of them playing concurrently...  yeah..  that's a lot.

Yeah and they did deter some. Why do you think there are still 85k players playing CS/CZ?

.3 for life.  They don't really lose those that stick to the old version instead of the new the only thing they risk is losing new sales of the old version and since new sales of css are probably pretty stagnant by now they really don't risk along those lines.  They're real problem is more along the lines of lack of drive to update, they don't think they have enough new material to add to create sales of a new version.  Why buy css2 when it's just a graphics and physics overhaul?  And the graphics overhaul probably wouldn't be as noiceable as the jump from cs to css.  I think laby is right, since cs is just a glorified hl mod the next version probably won't come until the next verion of hl, if at all.
