Abuya?!?

« on: February 24, 2007, 12:18:28 AM »

Well I finally got around to playing every next gen console out there and here are my "one liner" impressions.

All the systems were hooked up to a 90" screen with a 720P/1080i max projector with the capability to upscale to 1080P. A 5.1 surround sound system was present.

Wii: Great concept, cheesy implementation. Love the idea of motion sensing but the fact that my controller would often cut out and that game response seemed sluggish, ruined it for me. I was hoping for something as rock solid as the wavebird, where you could walk 2 rooms away and still control everything perfectly. Also, not sure how much I like the animal crossing feel of the main menu.

xBox360: Well... This is a mixed bag. I have a love/hate relationship with the backend of the console. Not because it is bad, rather because my eVox menu on the old xBox could do so much more. Games/Playability for this system beat out any of the others at the moment and I'd say with how moddable the 360 is going to become that other systems are going to really need to play catchup.

PS3: The "shiny god toy" as my friend called it proved to be exactly that, a shiny, large, expensive brick which could do about as much as my PC. Sure the backend was the smoothest and it had the most features but it really wasn't that amazing. Regardless of how "cool, yet mediocore" the backend is, I was stunned by the immersive gameplay on the PS3. Out of all the consoles, I'd say that the PS3 allows the most room for developers to work their magic for truly immersive/amazing games. I haven't been that sucked in to a game since I first popped in FFX for the PS2 back in the day.

Anywho, there is my initial impressions of the consoles.

Don't think I'm going to be buying any but if I did it would be the 360 tomorrow and in 3 months the PS3. If the wii ever kicks up the wireless another notch then I'll be the first to join the wii bandwagon. Until then, I think I'll pass it up.

doesn't xbox live detect a modded xbox and bans it from using xbox live in the future? i've also heard that you can bypass xbox live from detecting any modification on the xbox.

and did the ps3 controllers ever give out for like a split second? it happened a few times when i was playing on my friend's ps3 during a F1 racing demo.

Man my wiimote works great and never cuts out... I wonder if it had to do with the fact that you were using a 90 inch screen and the sensor was probably not receiving signals correctly...

Yeah, it probably does. When we had it all the way up against the screen like we should, it was too far away for the wiimotes to be steady. They were jiggling all over the place.

As for xbox360 modding, I'm not sure if they have a mod chip which can bypass the live ban yet but it will happen eventually.

i've only had problems when i buy cheap batteries and when objects get in the way

xbox TRIES to detect modded boxes (software mods) but doesn't do a very good job. My buddy plays Live with a software mod on his box.

When 360 is as mod-able as the xbox, and if I am interested enough to notice that this happens, then I will begin to consider getting back into new consoles.  Until then I will debate buying a NES.

I know.

We were just saying that not all of them have happened yet.

Or at least the PS3 hasn't happened yet, I believe.
