November 19th, Microsoft will release the New Xbox Experience.  It looks like the updated User Experience for navigation and "socialization" is targeted as a direct competitor to the PS3 Home and the fuzzy wuzzy feeling of the Wii.

The Features that interest me most are Netflix Streaming and Copy Games to HD.   This should keep the box a bit more quite and at the same time drive users to buy larger HD...

Now, can Microsoft implement this without destroying 50% of Xbox 360s?

yes, but if you tell them they can store more games on it, they'll sell more of them.

This is just the next step into making the 360 as mod able as the original xbox.

Soon you shouldn't even have to buy a 360 HDD.  I believe they are 2.5" SATA drives.  Buy a bigger laptop drive and pop it in there, load the dashboard, etc.

I'm not sure why you can't just do a raw dump of the HDD right now.  Maybe their "OS" can only read up to XX GB at this point.

If that ever happens, I'll be amazed and I'll jump on the bandwagon ASAP.

The original xbox was essentially worthless until you modded it, then it became godly.

If they make their os so it can play games from the hd then it should just be a matter of time.  But it really depends on the modding comunity and if they have the drive to crack it.  Shouldn't the next console versions be coming out soon?  I'm not into the console thing much these days so I wouldn't know, but has anyone heard anything about the next gen?

Well, it depends. Personally, I hope the console makers will not continue to shove consoles down our throats at such an alarming rate and will bother to spend time developing and making their current gen better. I doubt that will happen, though. I mean take a look at the 360, m$ released that thing very early - it's been out for 3 years now, hasn't it?

On topic: the feature which I'm most stoked for about the update is the ability to load games to my HD. I am SOOO sick of that DVD drive - sooo noisy.

I am recalling something about nintedo doing a next gen wii with better graphics, but other than that being the same system.  I don't remember a timeframe being mentioned.  My problem with the 360 and the ps2 was the only reason to get them was better graphics, they were releasing more sequels that promised to be just like their predecessors.  I stuck with my xbox for quite a while because of its emulator capabilities.  I have a hard time seeing myself buying a console again.

Yeah, it took me 2+ years to buy a 360. I only bought it for Halo3 and Gears. Even then, I still waited to find one with the new mobo.

It gets a fair amount of use with live and the occasional video I don't want to boot up the htpc for, but for the most part there isn't too much of a reason to upgrade consoles except for the games.

I'm pretty sure it's coming out on the 19th.

A few of the avatar features were delayed recently, but the update is still set to roll out on the 19th.
