i'll say right off the bat that i do like the 360. it's a solid system with great games like gow. my only beef with it is that it's loud.
with that said and done....
1st, have a gander at this article from isuppli:
http://www.isuppli.com/news/default.asp?id=6919Often on the intraweb, you see a lot of reviews for the ps3, but their intentions and integrity seem to be overtaken by subjectivity. after reading the about isuppli company and what they do (found on their "about isuppli" link), i was able to trust this article. isuppli made one mistake in the article to give credit for a ps3 part to another company, but quickly, and while noting it in bold, they fixed it and apologized for the mistake.

Now from this article, you can see that from their estimates on the tables, it takes about $840 to produce a single 60 gig ps3 essential (just the case), but yet they sell it at 600. that is one hell of a deal for a console.
i've find it very interesting that a majority of people on the internet express concerns about the high cost for the ps3. isuppli quote:"While many fret over the high cost and price of the PlayStation 3 compared to the competition, iSuppli believes the console provides more processing power and capability than any consumer electronics device in history."
i'd also like to note that if you took the $399 xbox 360 version, add on the hd dvd accessory for $200, and then add on $100 for the wireless adapter accessory , you're already at the $699 range.

there is more than just one reason to buy the ps3, especially if you're an enthusiast of technology.
-BR
-installing linux systems, which you can easily find people showing that on youtube.
-hooking up an external hd to play your media, etc.
-the other hardware goodies: cell processor, rsx gfx, removable SATA HDD which i hear you can replace with your own but i'm not 100% sure of that.
-up to 7 wireless controllers(y 7?? y not 8??)
-and whatever else

considering the BR technology:
you have hp and dell, the two top sellers in the pc industry. as they begin to sell their pc's with BR drives, a good portion of the pc consumer will end up with BR technology.
then take the 3 top box office winners in this order: Sony, Disney, and Fox. As they make turn their movies into dvd's of the standard dvd and BR, consumers will need to buy players that support BR if they want to take advantage of 1080i. So a big market of dvd's will be in BR when considering the near future.
so who's to supply BR players for the consumer? well, you have Sony, Samsung, Philips, Pioneer, Panasonic, LG, Mitsubishi Electric, and Sharp to supply that need.
Overall, this is how i concluded that BR may win this format war.

Even though Sony did a crappy job with their release of the ps3 last november with their low supply and large lack of release games, there is something good that comes out of this, at least for me. With the release of the ps3 in november, there is more time for feedback from consumers as to how they would like the ps3 to be improved.
An example is the concept ps3 controller that looked like a boomerang. after large criticism, Sony replaced the model to be based off the ps2 controller. So Sony does listen to the consumer.
In essence, i hope that Sony will improve the current ps3 controller (and anything else for the matter) by adding the rumble feedback back in production.
Even though the ps3 has a low selection for games
NOW, here is a list of games to arrive in the near future:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_3_gamesi'm stoked for Tekken 6, MGS4, Need for Speed: carbon, GT 5, RE 5, Devil May Cry 4, Heavenly Sword, FF XIII and versus XIII, White Knight Story, and Killzone.
btw, CoD3 is on the ps3 right now.
