Fallout

Wow, this series of games is ridiculously awesome. If you started playing now it would probably suck.. but I grew up with Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics. Fallout 3 is currently under development by Bethesda (elder scrolls) after being tossed between dev teams.

Its set in a post-apocalyptic world where nuclear winter has ravaged the Earth's surface, save for a few isolated bastions of remaining humanity and technology, "Vaults" that were constructed by the government to house the leaders of the future and those deemed necessary to support it. However, the missiles struck before completion and mutants (not all are evil) roam the surface while the vaultdwellers try to rebuild civilization. The art style, music, dialogue are top notch.. If anyone remembers Black Isle Studios, they did Fallout 2 I believe.

Anyway, its real cheap now, but its a deep free-roaming RPG, had some great political commentary too.
