It's about damn time eh? And yes I just said eh. Counter Strike Source Overview/ Q@A session.
We all know the game, its so simplistic even Jmo can play it. The question is: Why is it so damn popular?
Why is this game fun: Violence. The graphics and physics in Counter Strike Source are not astounding, its a simplistic violent game with a clear objective. It's simple, precise and easy to understand, there's no dilly dallying- Terrorist = bomb Counter Terrorist = No Bomb.
Im not offering a review on this game, since obviously my view and everyone else who has a view here would be biased, instead Im posing a question to you.
Why do you personally think this game has gotten so popular, it's been publicly available for about 6 years and is still selling copies, what makes it the best Online FPS out there?

it requires some sense of "teamwork", has great guns, no-instant spawn requires some sense of strategy, and the graphics and violence.

The teamwork aspect is what makes the game popular IMHO. All the other shooters I've played have required zero to no teamwork to get things done.
Does it do a lot of things (especially netcode) as well as other games? Not even close.

the no-instant respawning positions and no mad nade spamming/grenade launchers, etc. like cod4 is what i think keeps css strong. at least this is why i'll choose css over cod4 any day.

If you play Search and Destroy its basically CSS, with better netcode and graphics.... no reg issues ftw!

Personally I think CoD4 plays a bit better than CSS (especially in Hardcore mode) since an M4 headshot will actually kill somebody!!!!!1111

And by realism i mean a bunch of men outfitted with state of the art weapons appearing in a geographical area with no entry or exit point, tasked with the objective of killing each other out of sport.

Yeah, they all aren't very realistic.
Then again, who wants to play a realistic game? Sounds rather boring. I mean, then I would actually need to care about dying.

Yeah, America's Army (the game) is probably one of the most realistic games out there... then again its really really slow paced. There were times where I was waiting for 10 minutes to respawn since I got shot early in the round.
