Hi, i have a question that i have debated quite frequently with friends. i say that class is definitely not the time to try and talk to a girl about going out or asking to do something. I think that you have to see a girl out at a party or at a bar to make conversation. It is different if you are made partners in a class for some reason, but just going and sitting beside a girl you think to be pretty is just weird?
Or am I just dumb trying to be smooth XD

Wait, so you're saying it is a bad thing to make small talk with girls at school? I fail to see the logic in that, although I can see your point to not try to schmooze them.
What I do is treat the time spent at school like time spent in the workplace but more relaxed. Feel free to make small talk, but treat everyone fairly professionally, don't try to get lucky while at school, it just looks greasy.
And I don't think just sitting down next to a girl at school to talk is weird, it's pretty standard in my book.

High school and college are a bit different, but I see no problem in sitting next to someone you think you might want to get to know. I would not start by dropping lines and immediately asking said person out, but small talk would be ok and then you could move from there. I actually met a pretty cool girl in one of my classes we did not end up going out but did become friends.

ya.. but goosie, most of the men/boys will disagree with you that women and men cant be 'friends'  ... moving on. i think its perfectly fine having small talk with a girl in your class. if you dont see her in another social setting, how are you suppose to get to know her if you dont ask her stuff or even ask her out? i suppose it just depends on how you set your expectations and what you want out of the situation. |

ya.. but goosie, most of the men/boys will disagree with you that women and men cant be 'friends' I know. I worked with a friend of mine who was a girl, we met at a previous company and migrated at the same time. Everyone thought we were a couple. Even people who worked in the same room as us couldn't seem to pick up on the lack of romantic vibe. |

[spoiler]if you have a few minutes (3) before class starts go talk to her and get a phone number and go sit somewhere else. this is just my opinion cos it works damn well. meeting a girl for the first time is like playing chess, if you eff-up at the beginning.. you can kiss the rest of the game goodbye most of the time. prolonging the first conversation after you spark a little interest is just not necessary..[/spoiler]
