Ok, it seems to be going around that we are getting 3 servers with the server deal. This is sort of true.

2 Counterstrike Source Servers
1 18 Man Public Game Server
1 12 Man Private Game Server

Then the 16 man server is a a Ventrillo server.
1 16 Man Ventrillo (Voice Chat, Not Counterstrike) Server

The 16 man Vent server is a server that you can join via Ventrillo and chat with other people who are on the server via a microphone. It is dead useful for scrimmages, or mmo's but it is not a game server. Just a chat server.

Hope that clarifies things.

How is it any better than regular voice chat for scrims?

It's much better than normal voice chat. With the normal miles audio codec built in to source voice is hardly understandable.

If you want to get a taste of how Ventrillo sounds go try jumping in to the BoE Teamspeak server, I can't remember the IP but someone should have it somewhere, Pass is boescrim.

You can drop it if you want to, NFo only charges $8.00 a month for their 16 man vent servers, but from past experience I would strongly reccomend it for a actively competing clan like oPg. Mainly due to the facts that voice quality is much better, and you can be talking to everyone the whole round, not just anyone who is alive. Translation: If Powdered get's wasted by a flashbang to the head, he can still warn the rest of the team over vent. Without vent, Powdered wouldn't be able to warn the rest of you about the flashbanger and more people might get taken out.

Anywho, whenever I've scrimmed we've used them before and I've found them dead useful. But it all comes down to personal preference.

Well in all CAL matches they force first person viewmode and you can only see your team, which is how it would be set up if you were scrimming someone.

I can guarantee you clans such as Vertex, Emptyshell, etc... use this and if you're playing against them without it, you put yourself at a disadvantage.

Okay, that makes more sense I suppose.  Still kind of a lame advantage, but it has it's uses.

Apps like Ventrillo & TeamSpeak are unfortuenatley a necessary evil if you're going to be competative. By their very existance they put non-users at a disadvantage cuz ya never know if the team you're up against is useing it.

Even though most CAL matches are set up for team-view only, the dead can still talk to the living saying things like "Killed in the B tunnel. At least 3 boggies present. Killa's awping from spawn...again. Proceed with caution"

That's valueable intel that the living may or may not know that could end up saving their bacon.

It's also possible to set it up to where squads can talk to their squad only or to everybody at the same time which has it's advantages as well.
