Just thought I'd throw my two cents in here.

If you are a fantasy genre buff, I highly recommend Steven Erikson.  His Malazan Book of the Fallen begins with Gardens of the Moon, and rapidly develops into an addiction.  He has developed a very well thought out universe, with a scope that I found quite mesmerizing, and excellently drawn characters which have definitely captivated my imagination.  On top of this, he is actually a to read, which is not always the case with these sorts of stories.  He doesn't drag things out and manages to maintain a nice tension throughout his stories.

Well, enough of that.  I'm drunk, and wanted to praise one of my new favorite fantasy authors.  Robert Jordan and Terry Goodkind be damned!

OH MY GOD.

I've been reading those books for years, and this was my worst fear.
What a tragedy.  What a loss.

indeed, he pulled a frank herbert on us. When i finished the dune series, i was like, well i guess we need to make a ghola of him and have that frank finish it. its just that simple. but then i remembered i wasnt in the dune world and i became really depressed.
I would have to say that one of my new favorite fantasy authors (and i mean new to me, when i say that) is George R.R. Martin, This cat can write. His fantasy isnt the standard wizard/elf/demon fantasy. But it is extremely good. I just finished the first book "Game of Thrones" and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys hard fantasy.

i have read goodkind and jordan, i am impressed with the both of them. Goodkind does some real good character stuff, and you usually feel pretty good about his books, Jordan is just classic.
