It's sept. 11 10:45 PST.  I was banned by the admin "rage" for "admin disrespect".  The user "ir dead" was slain by rage for accidentally TKing him.  He started screaming, "f***ing moron" and I asked him, not even knowing he was an admin, if he was going to "rage quit" (you know, because his name is rage...  It's a silly play on word...)  He then said, "i'm not in the mood for this kind of shit", and banned me.

I play cpl and opg servers almost exclusively, unless they are full, so needless to say, I would very much appreciate being unbanned and hopefully someone telling rage to holster his itchy ban trigger finger.  Thanks a bunch, see you guys around.

rage banned!  Since he hasn't posted anything, I bet the ban was only for a limited amount of time.

If you can't get in by this afternoon, post again and we'll get you unbanned.

lawl, i'm sure you are unbanned by now.  Most if not all of his bans are for 60 mins so that you don't show up while he's still playing.  Like Jake said, let us know if you still can't get in.

If admins are not posting their 60 minute banns they will be moved to noob admins after several bans like this.

We need to know who is banned and why from all the admins. If this is too much to do, noob admins may be the right level for such admins.

Er. This isn't really the place for this, but that's a bit excessive.

Perm bans or any ban longer than 24 hours I can see needing a post.

Other than that, it's just going to be way too much of a hassle to do any admining. At risk of admins not doing their job because they don't want to fill out the paperwork, I'd set X<24 bans, where X=hours to not require a post.

True but if we have admins banning people for 60 minutes cause they do not want to play with "some" people we will have problems. You think?

I see your point Laby.  On the other hand if an admin doesn't feel like typing status, alt tabbing, and posting it clearly was not a big enough deal for them to ban over.  That's less than a one minute process on most computers.  And they don't even have to do it immediately.

I agree.  I used to be a volunteer admin over at spawnpoint.com, which sounds like a similar setup to your opg admins (admin hierarchy, keeping records of bans, demoing hackers, etc.)  I generally found that there were alternative ways to deal with people short of having a 60 minute ban that were just as effective.  Disrespectful users or mic spammers could be warned or muted temporarily.  Even slaying can work well to get people's attention before jumping to a ban (not that I think what I did warranted any of this).

But letting admins "rage ban" (which I do think this was a case of) is only going to hurt the server and the community in the long run.  IMO, if it isn't important enough for you to alt+tab and make a record of the ban on the opg servers, than the violation wasn't important enough to warrant a ban in the first place.  That's my 2cents.

Yes, that is a problem. Banning without significant cause is a definite problem. At the same time, I don't want to go overboard with the bureaucracy.
