Cause they think AOL is the shit.
Also I've been know at times to use dial-up when I'm desperate for the internet. Like two years ago we got ours disconnected. I stayed up late night cruising on Netzero and Juno 10 hours free a month, oh those were the days.

Lissa this problem is a particular plague for web designers. Primarily because everyone on Dialup is going to also use IE6 or even worse, 5! It's like they don't want to just rape us web designers, but do it slowly and painfully in a manner only Satan can comprehend. I pity the fool who uses dial up.
